Leave your footprints

Two places that have been of value to me over the last 3 months that have given me a contact.

The first website is the Australian Trove Website Newspaper section when a person who registered with the site to make corrections to articles that I was also was interested in.  I of course left my calling comment and tag, and contacted her through the trove system to confirm she was working on a family connection of mine, with the answer in the affirmative, leading to exchanging information on relatives in common.

The second website Ross & Cromarty Roots Gravestone search area.  I had placed my comment on several then came to one of my husbands forbears and there was a message by a person to state these people were 3x great grandparents, who are also my husbands 3xgreat grandparents.  I left a message then sent an email to the person who placed the first comment, we are in the beginning of exchanges, she did not know that 3 of the 14 children emigrated to Australia, and descends through a line I lost site of in 1869.

So if you have the opportunity to leave a comment or register it can reap you some rewards.

Deceased online updates

Over 70,000 records for Chester's historic
Overleigh Cemetery added to Deceased Online

  • Approximately 72,000 burial records for the older section of Overleigh Cemetery in the ancient northern English City of Chester have been added to the Deceased Online database.
  • The records date from 1850 to 1953; records for 1953 to October 2011 are already on www.deceasedonline.com.
  • The records comprise burial register scans and grave details; maps indicating grave locations will be added in the near future.
  • Overleigh Cemetery contains many historically interesting burials and beautiful memorials such as the celebrated 'Queen of the Gypsies', Mary Finney, and her husband Guilderoy Finney.
  • The Cemetery also has many interments featuring Irish names.
  • The total dataset for the council area, Cheshire West and Chester, now comprises approximately 200,000 burial and cremation records.
  • For further details, see the 'database coverage' section at www.deceasedonline.com.

Scanning large photos

Late last year I inherited several A3 photos in extremely poor condition and thought I need to scan these but hey I am not so good at 2 x A4 and stitching them up.

Today I went into my local Office Works Store, yes, they can scan to USB drive, yippee and the best thing it is only 40cents.  This might be useful for Australian researchers.
